Carlos emigrated from Skein, Norway in 1865, with his new wife Anna Gurene (Thorson)Olson, who was also his cousin.

They lived in Chicago, Illinois, where he was a seaman.
They had three sons: Carl Olaves Olson, Carl"Charles" Olaves Olson, and David Martinius Olson. The first son Carl died as a baby of less than a year old, and as was often the rule, they named their second son Carl.

in 1874 , Carlos went down with his ship in Lake Michigan. Anna was pregnant, but set off for Wisconsin to be with her family who had also come to America and settled in Juneau/Monroe County area of Wisconsin. She gave birth to her daughter, Clara Annette, on her way to central Wisconsin, in Racine, Wisconsin . Then continued on her journey with the new baby and the two boys to settle in Clifton,Monroe Co, Wisconsin.

Unfortunately little Clara, died age 2, struck by lightening while drinking out of a dipper. (story told by family members)
