Edward Andrews
Edward Andrews, 42, of the Sunnyside Church community, died in a local hospital early Saturday morning, April 14, after an illness of several months.
The son of Mrs. Nezzie Verner Andrews of Toccoa and the late Lewis Andrews, he was born Feb. 20, 1931 in Crawford, but had resided practically all of his life in Toccoa and Stephens County.
Mr. Andrews was a member of the Sunnyside Baptist Church, a member of the board of deacons, a former chairman of the board, a member of the board of trustees of the church and taught Sunday school in the junior department of the church. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
Andrews owned and operated The Currahee Sash & Door Company in Toccoa.
Beside his mother, survivors include his wife, Mrs. Catherine Moore Andrews, two daughters, Lynne and Karen, one son, Douglas, all of the residence; four brothers, Clarence Andrews of Toccoa, Jack Andrews of Morganton, N.C., Boyd Andrews of Winterville, Mr. Grant Andrews of Lexington; six sisters, Mrs. James Caldwell of Toccoa, Mrs. Wendell Ansley of Toccoa, Mrs. Everett Cox of Toccoa, Mrs. W.R. Appling of Lexington, Mrs. Dan Turner of Lexington and Mrs. Margaret Hambrick of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Russell Turpin, of Conyers, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Odis Moore of Toccoa.
Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Sunnyside Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Timms and Rev. Milford Boyce and Rev. Spence Phillips officiating. Pallbearers were Vernon Ramsay, Jack Stovall, Harry Woodson, Bill Hunt, Lynn Morgan and Lem Bracewell.
The honorary escort was composed of the board of trustees and members of the board of deacons of Sunnyside Baptist Church. Interment was in Stephens Memorial Gardens with Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
