Henry Jackson "Jack" Andrews, 87, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, after an extended illness.

He was born Sept., 26, 1933, in Crawford, Oglethorpe County, Ga., the son of the late James Lewis Andrews and Nezzie Verner Andrews. The family moved back to their ancestral home of Toccoa, Stephens County, Ga., when he was an infant, where his ancestors had lived since 1807. Some of his extended ancestral family included pioneer frontiersman Daniel Boone and General Daniel Morgan, the namesake of Morganton, along with numerous other Revolutionary War Patriots.

Mr. Andrews moved to Morganton, in 1958, with his first wife, Emogene Clontz, a native of Morganton. He was a well-known member of the community for many years as a notable land surveyor and real estate developer, and was held by many in high regard as he was known to be good to his employees, partners, and colleagues, and fair and honest in his business dealings. Many people in Burke County now live in neighborhoods that he developed or co-developed over the years.

Mr. Andrews was a member of the North Carolina and National Association of Home Builders, and was active in Ruritan National and Benelovent and Protective Order of Elks, where he served in various leadership roles and as a trustee. He received many awards for his contributions to community service throughout the years. He attended First United Methodist Church of Morganton.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by four half brothers; three half sisters; two brothers; and four sisters. He was the last surviving child of his parents.

He is survived by his son, Bryan "Scott" Andrews of Morganton.

No services are planned at this time due to COVID-19 pandemic.
