She married Carroll L. VanOmmeren on December 29, 1944 in Muskegon, Michigan.
Virgie was a homemaker for most of her life, but had also worked at the Ward Theater, in the office at Red's Welding and in later life at the Mt. Pleasant Holiday Inn.
Her favorite things to do included spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, also bowling, knitting, crossword puzzles, and playing bingo.
Virgie's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from the Helms Chapel of the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Jon Fredrickson of Woodland Hospice officiating. Interment of the cremated remains were placed in Riverside Cemetery with her husband, Carroll.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to Woodland Hospice.
Left to mourn are her four children, Sue (Dan) LaBumbard of Jackson, MI, Ed (Sandy) VanOmmeren, Carol Jean VanOmmeren, and Sandy (Lou) Jensen, all of Mt. Pleasant; one sister Lina Ruth Teeter of Clare; grandchildren, Lisa VanOmmeren (Devin) Million of Midland, Lori (Justin) Mullins of East Lansing, Tom VanOmmeren of Alma, and Chad (Shelly) LaBumbard of East Hampton, MA; great grandchildren, Ethan Mullins, Anika Mullins, Ian, Carter, and Nolan Adams.
Virgie was preceded in death by her husband of forty two years, Carroll L. VanOmmeren, three sisters, Isabella Marie Galgoczi, Glenore Moss and Marvel Mahoney; three brothers, Thomas, Richard and Ed Ball.
Rowley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
