Esther Ella Altis Lilly, 94, daughter of Addison and Elsie Altis, was born Sept .17, 1902, in the Hamilton Creek community north of Cabool. She died June 6, 1997. She had been a resident of Houston House since November 1996.
The Addison Altis family moved to Solo when Esther was three. She attended Solo School through the eighth grade and graduated from Houston High School in 1924 along with her brother, Arvil. As a young woman, she united with the New Hope Baptist Church in Houston. She married Ray D. Lilly Oct. 16, 1924, at the Houston Baptist parsonage. He preceded her in death March 23, 1986. They lived in the Solo community until about 1945, when they purchased a home south of Houston on U.S. 63, which is now in the city limits. Mrs. Lilly enjoyed her yard and garden, and her flowers were a source of beauty for the public's viewing from the highway. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Arvil, Lloyd, Ray and Earnest. Surviving are three sisters, Blanche Mueller and Fern Wilson of Houston and Beulah Thieman of Higginsville.
Services were June 9 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Gibson officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery
