Robert S. "Bob" Hicks was the son of Rev. Robert D. Hicks and Catherine Sweeten.
He married in 1875 Martha Mary "Marth" Alsup. They had 3 sons, Oliver G. Hicks 1876, Timothy 1878 and William Day "Bill" 1880.
He was a farmer and a circuit rider preacher, (Christian Church), living most of his life in Douglas Co., Mo. The 1880 Cass/Douglas-142 censes shows Robert Hicks with 3 children, and indicates Martha, his first wife, as a "runaway". They divorced around 1881. Robert raised Oliver and Timothy "Tim" with his second wife Margaret Ann Medlock and their children. William "Bill" Day was raised by his mother with her Proctor Children. She married John Proctor. Oliver related to his children many years later that Martha was pregnant with "Bill" when she rode out with Tim age 2 on front of the horse and Oliver age 4 on the back. "Bob" chased them down and rode by grabbing Oliver off the back and then made another circle, came back grabbing Tim off the front. Oliver remembered this and told his children. Oliver said he remembered loosing his little hat.
"....[c1900] Bob and Margaret Ann [his second wife] went to Arkansas, near Russelville. He got sick and wrote home to Mo. The family decided Oliver should go, by freight train, and bring them back, so he did. When he got there, his father was sick and everything was wet. He built a fire and dried things out, and brought them all back to Missouri in their wagon." Oliver told this story and many more to his children in Oklahoma. Oliver made many trips back to Douglas County to visit his mother and his Proctor brothers and sisters.
Bob and Margaret Ann Medlock Hicks had Robert Bruster "Bruce" Hicks 1881, Jacob Bird Hicks 1886, Darrel Wessley "Wess" Hicks and daughter Mamie Hicks Blevins 1895.
Oliver and Tim moved their families to Lincoln Co, OK in the early 20's, Margaret and her family followed. Oliver, Tim, Jake and Wess stayed and raised families in Lincoln Co, OK. Bruce settled in Logan Co, OK. Mamie married William Blevins Jr. and settled in Oklahoma City, OK.
Bob was minister of Sanky Church. He had a threshing machine and did work for other farmers at harvest time as well as performing many other jobs. He is buried in the "Old Hicks Cemetery" now called Proctor Cemetery, in Champion Township.
