Oliver G. Hicks was born May 2 1876 to Robert S. Hicks and Martha Mary Alsup. He grew up in Douglas Co. MO and married first Arsulla Hutchinson, they had 2 children Golda and Homer. Homer died when just a lad, Arsulla also died leaving him with his daughter Golda. He married Rosetta Caroline Mason, daughter of "Leck" and Mary Elizabeth Bagsby Mason. Oliver and Rosetta moved their family to Oklahoma in 1922. When Oliver and his famly arrived by train in Chandler Oklahoma in 1922, brothers Jake and Wess Hicks met them; brother Tim Hicks and family came later in covered wagon. All settled northwest of Chandler, Lincoln Co, OK. Rosetta and Oliver had a large family with 9 living to adulthood.
Rosetta died in 1930 leaving Oliver to raise 8 children, Noah had married, the youngest Leo was just 2 years old. Oliver with the help of his older daughters raised the large family and worked the farm in Lincoln Co., during the time of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. Oliver was loved and respected by all his children and grandchildren.
Their children were: Noah Monroe Hicks, Viola Huffman, Mary Lofton, Lydia Sipe, Amanda Sadler, Ida Marie Hopkins, Martha Ann Lamb, Inis Irene Sigle, William Leo Hicks. (BAS)

Oliver G. Hicks, 87 year old retired farmer of Tryon died early Saturday morning at the Cushing Municipal Hospital following a serious illness of 8 weeks.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2pm in the Tryon Christian Union Church with Rev. H.I. Jones in charge. Burial under direction of Fairley Funeral Home will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery north of Chandler.
Hicks, born May 2, 1876 in Douglas County, Missouri, was married to Rosetta Mason April 25, 1909 in that county and they came to Oklahoma settling at Tryon 41 years ago. Mrs. Hicks preceded him in death Jan. 18, 1930. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors are: seven daughters, Mrs. Viola Huffman and Mrs. Ida Hopkins of Cushing, Mrs Mary Lofton of Udall, Ks., Mrs. Lydia Sipe of Midwest City, Mrs. Amanda Sadler of Carney, Mrs. Martha Lamb of Stillwater, and Mrs. Inis Sigle of Oklahoma City: two sons, Noah Hicks of Fresno, Calif. and Leo Hicks of Cushing; four half sisters and four half brothers including Wess Hicks of Tryon and Jake Hicks of Ponca City; 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Casket bearers were grandsons and included Fred Hopkins, Paul Sipe, Ronald Huffman, Glendle Lofton, Max Lofton and Jimmy Huffman.
A mixed choir sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden". They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Conrad Schreiner.

Oliver G. Hicks, son of Robert and Martha Alsup Hicks was born in Douglas County, Missouri on May 2, 1876.
He was united in marriage to Arsulie Hutchison in 1896. She died in 1907. To this union was born two children. Both children, also, preceded him in death.
On April 25, 1909 he was united in marriage to Rosetta Mason who preceded him in death in 1930.
He brought his family to Oklahoma in 1922, settling in Lincoln County, Oklahoma and lived in this community the rest of his life.
He was active in farming until his retirement 20 years ago. He then moved to Tryon, Oklahoma where he spent his remaining years.
He made his profession of faith in Christ and was baptized in 1936. He was a member of the Christian Church of Tryon, Oklahoma.
In ill health for the past few years he was one who never complained, but was thankful for every blessing. He endured intense suffering the past eight weeks of his life, but was comforted by the knowledge that his children were constantly with him and always at his bedside.
He is survived by nine children: Noah Hicks, Fresno, California; Mrs Viola Huffman, Cushing, Oklahoma; Mrs. Mary loftin, Udall, Kansas; Mrs. Lydia Sipe, Midwest City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Amanda Sadler, Tryon, Oklahoma; Mrs. Ida Hopkins, Cushing, Oklahoma; Mrs. Martha Lamb, Stillwater, Oklahoma; Mrs. Inis Sigle, Del City, Oklahoma and Leo Hicks, Cushing, Oklahoma; twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. Four half-brothers, including Wess Hicks of Tryon, Oklahoma; Jake Hicks of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Blumie and Feldie Proctor both of Missouri; Four half-sisters: Mrs. Maggie Alsup; Mrs. Tennie Alsup; Mrs. Mable Lee all of Missouri and Mrs. Lou Mitchell of California, and a host of friends and relatives.
And not until the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the pattern
And explain the reason why
The dark threads were so needful,
For the pattern which he planned
