"Rev. Hicks died in Jefferson City while serving as State Representative from Douglas County. He was a Representative of Douglas and Ozark counties in the Missouri legislature. He died of pneumonia while attending a state session in 1863. He was buried in the place he died. It was a month before his family learned of his death because of the snail's pace at which news traveled at that time."
