Born to Samuel Reese Upshaw, Sr. (1882-1940) and Ethel Lillie Lauderdale (1889-1919) Reese Upshaw, Jr. spent his whole life in the town he loved � De Leon, Texas. On March 3, 1931 he married his high school sweetheart, Lois E. Bell, and to that union was born two children, Peggy Lynn and Samuel Dee. In 1933 he began a career with the US Postal Service that spanned 40 years and included his appointment as Postmaster for De Leon. Born into a Christian family he was active in his local Baptist church. He took pride in his community and his civic service included; the Lions Club, Volunteer Fire Department, Chairman Peach and Melon Festival, high school Ex-students Association, and De Leon Public School Board. He was also an ardent supporter of the high school football team. He loved the outdoors and roamed the country side as a boy. Later in life he was happiest when wading waste deep in river water checking a trot line, chatting near a campfire and sleeping on a cot beside smoldering coals. He often spent his free time tinkering with an outboard boat motor or preparing his gear for the next fishing trip to the Colorado River with his friends and family. He also enjoyed domino games like "42", and his stamp and coin collections were the envy of all who shared the same interest. Died of Hodgkins disease at age 61. DWS
