Bill was the son of John J. Smith and Elizabeth (Fields) Keith of Meniffee County, Ky.
He married Josephine (Josie) Mae Suiter on Feb. 11, 1904. Bill made the best sorgum molasses for miles around, he also raised tobacco and made wooden caskets when needed.
Together they raised 8 children in Briar Hollar, on the west bank of Briar Branch, Frenchburg, Kentucky: Corbett, Arnold, Earl, Melvin, Beulah, Versie, Bethel and Velva.
Josie died of Bright's Disease in 1933 and is buried in Bethel Cemetery, on a hill on the farm they loved near Frenchburg, Ky. The farm is now owned by Dorsey Whitt's family.
Elizabeth had a son by her 1st marriage, Henry Keith. John and Elizabeth then had 10 children: John E., Angeline Smith (Tribue) Lovely, William F., Robert Lee, Floyd, and Asberry. Four children died young: Elizabeth, Louisa, Miles and Sibby.
Services were held Dec. 27th at 2pm at New Lebanon Brethren Church with Rev. Lowell A. Nihizer officiating.
