Arthur's family immigrated from Tegnaby, Smaland, Sweden, and settled on a farm in Almelund, Chisago County, MN. Arthur had 13 siblings. He was confirmed in the Almelund Lutheran Church in 1901. Arthur moved to Minneapolis where he owned a grocery store called Ryberg & Herberg for at least 15 years. Arthur lived above his store in an apartment, located at 816-14th Avenue South, Minneapolis. Arthur never married. His niece remembers him as a very happy man who laughed all the time. Two of his younger sisters, Pearl and Mabel, lived and worked with him before they moved to California.

Arthur was in partnership with Swen August Ryberg, who died in 1932. According to his obit on Findagrave (126918776 ), Swen was born on a farm 1 ½ miles south of Almelund, July 20, 1884 and was the son of Mrs. Andrew Ryberg. He attended public schools in the community and was formerly a member of the Almelund Lutheran church. He farmed until 12 years ago when he went to California for a year. He then moved to Minneapolis and started a grocery store in 1921 in partnership with Art Herberg, also a former Almelund resident. Mr. Ryberg was never married.
