Elmer Herberg, 43 year old farmer residing only a mile and an half north of Lindstrom died suddenly at Samaritan Hospital, St. Paul, Monday evening following a short illness with pneumonia. He first took ill Friday night when returning from his trap line and was removed to the hospital early Monday morning. The end came at 9 pm that evening.
Services were held this afternoon at 1:30 from the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church of Center City of which the deceased was a member. Officiating was Rev. J. Henry Bergren. Interment was made in the cemetery of the church.
Mr. Herberg had suffered from diabetes for several years and his condition combined with pneumonia was believed to have caused his untimely passing. During the past summer hen had been renting out boats on the Ruffcorn property at North Center City Lake and developed a fine trade there and had become widely known to many fishermen of this locality and in the Twin Cities as well.
Born on a farm near Almelund on Feb 14, 1898 he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Herberg and grew to manhood on that place. After farming on the home place he moved to his present farm near Lindstrom where he remained until his death. At one time he was employed with the Almelund Creamery.
He is mourned by his wife and Miss Ardis Ruffcorn who lived with them during the past year, three sisters, Mrs. Jack Gillespie of San Diego, CA, Mrs. Bud Hawk of Long Beach, CA and Mrs. Archie Grieco of Newman, CA and three brothers, Charles, Albert and Lawrence Herberg of Almelund besides a large group of other relatives and friends.
