Herman J. Karls, 84, formerly of Marytown, a resident of the Calumet Homestead, in New Holstein since 1984, died there Thursday, Mary 10, 1990.
He was born March 22, 1906 in the town of Calumet Fond du Lac county, a son of the late Mathias and Katherine Pauly Karls. He farmed in the town of Calumet, until retiring in 1979.
On Jan. 7, 1930, he married Elizabeth Boehnlein at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein and its Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, one son, Andrew (Geraldine) Karls, Marytown; four daughters, Mrs. Ludina (Elmer) Schmitz, Mt. Calvary; Mrs. Betty (Benno) Kraus, Marytown; Mrs. Rosetta (Tony Kraus, Mt. Calvary; Mrs. Shirley (Ray) Jacques, Hartland; 27 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. The Rev. Monsignor Peter Klauck, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
