Joseph A. Karls, 84, of 1915 Randolph Avenue, New Holstein a resident of Calumet Homestead since last November, died there Thursday night, January 27.
He was born in Marytown October 9, 1898, a son of the late Mathias and Katherine Pauly Karls. He attended Marytown schools.
ON February 27, 1922, he married Katherine Wettstein in Kloten. She died October 11, 1956.
Karls farmed in the Marytown area until 1939, when he moved to New Holstein. He was employed at Lauson Engine Division of Tecumseh Products, until retiring in 1966.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein, its Holy Name Society, and the Chilton Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Cyril, of Stockbridge; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Evangeline) Draheim of New Holstein; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a brother, Herman of New Holstein. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, preceded by family rites at Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home, New Holstein. The Rev. Ralph Hermsen, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
