He was born November 7, 1924, in Harrison County, the son of the late Thomas A. and Myrtle Gay Freeman.
He was married to Lucy Rose Casto, who died April 8, 2002.
Surviving are two sons, John Vance Freeman and Charles Steven Freeman; two daughters, Beverly Coffindaffer and her husband, Ronald and Margaret Hughes; four sisters, Mary Thompson, Helen Jones, Mildred Tresize and Betty Allman; two brothers, Charles E. Freeman and wife, Joyce and Leland (Pete) Freeman and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Kelli Breen, Kathy (Steve) DeBrular, Kristi (Bob) Richards, R.D. Coffindaffer, Tommy (Carmen) Stout, Tricia (Steve) Jerden, Heather (Aris) Parks, Megan Freeman, Brittany (Ben) Pinkney, Brandy Freeman, Beth Freeman; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Breen, Joey DeBrular, Natalie (Adam) Taylor, Karrington and Kade Richards, Parker Coffindaffer, Brittany, Shawna and Kenna Stout, Nick and Ben Jerden, Brannon and Brice Hughes, Emma and Ella Pinkney; and great-great-grandchild, Landyn Taylor.
A lover of family and friends, several nieces and nephews survive.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Hannah Chamberlain and two brothers, Junior Freeman and Ralph Freeman.
Mr. Freeman had worked for Simpson Truck Sales, was a Mack Diesel Mechanic, a veteran of the U.S. Army, loved to go to dirt track races to watch his nephew, Denny, race and was a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, Sunday afternoon from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Morris Funeral Home Monday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. William Lanham assisted by Rev. Ashby Titus. Burial will be in the Broad Run Cemetery.
