She was born in Jane Lew, WV, on Sept. 15, 1921, a daughter of the late Thomas Albert Freeman and Ivy Myrtle (Gay) Freeman.
Her husband, Dever Byron Thompson, preceded her in death on March 11, 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Major Cora Mae Thompson and Brenda Joyce (Thompson) Mazzie and her husband, John; three sisters, Mildred “Midge” Trezise, Helen Jones and Betty Allman and her husband, Archie; one brother, Pete Freeman and his wife, Linda; two grandchildren, John Paul Mazzie and Mary Beth Mazzie and several nieces, nephew, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Freeman, Charles Freeman, Thomas Freeman Jr. and John Freeman and two sisters, Hannah Chamberlain and an infant, Fleda Virginia Freeman.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of The Salvation Army Church on Chestnut St., Clarksburg. She sold The Salvation Army War Cry for several years. She was a Young People Sergeant Major at The Salvation Army for many years. Mrs. Thompson loved working with young people and enjoyed the League of Mercy. She also worked at G.C. Murphy for over thirty years.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, from noon - 8 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral service will be held at The Salvation Army Church on Chestnut Street at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, with Colonel David Jeffrey and Major Mark Bell presiding. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state from 9-10 a.m. Interment will be in Broad Run Cemetery, Jane Lew.
