Lily Bowers immigrated to America with her mother and three brothers in 1894. (Her father had immigrated the previous year.) The family settled in Trenton, New Jersey. A baby brother was born in 1895. However, Lily's father William Bowers died the following year. Lily and her little brother remained with their mother in Trenton, but the three older boys went to live in separate homes in Delaware.

Lily's mother married Henry Gillam in 1902. By 1910, the family was reunited, including the brothers who had been "adopted" in Delaware, although Lily herself was gone from the family home, having already married Albert Lockwood.

After her husband died in 1942 she went to live with her daughter Ida in Rowayton, CT. She spent many happy years there watching her large family grow up. She had many grandchildren & great grandchildren. When she became ill in 1969 she came to live with her son Albert. Albert, daughter in law Joan, Joan's mother & two grandchildren are buried next to her.
