JONESVILLE - Services for Veta J. Riggs, 77, of Jonesville, who died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Golden Age Nursing Center in Jena, La., will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Evangeline Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Webber and the Rev. Dennis Baker officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Youngs Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m today at the church.
Mrs. Riggs was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Jonesville, the daughter of Roy Levester Speights and Martha Elizabeth Cooper Speights. She was a homemaker and a member of Evangeline Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Shirley Speights, Cooper Wray Speights, Wayne Speights and Charles Speights; and two sisters, Ruth Dabbs and Doris Nell Trisler.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, David H. Riggs; one son, David Eugene Riggs and wife, Nichole; of Neirstein, Germany; one grandson, Chase Daniel Riggs of Neirstein; and three sisters, Myrtle Cooper of Baton Rouge, Virginia Chevallier and Neta Middleton and husband, Floyd, all of Jonesville.
Pallbearers will be Less McCartney, David Shirley, Ervin White, Levester Wray Flumby Speights, Jimmy Jernigan and Bobby Emrick.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ike Robertson, Sonny Carlton and Floyd Middleton.
