Gerald was the son of Monroe Dewey Canon and Notie Irene "Norene" Alexander Canon.
He married Doris Marie Wade on Nov. 12, 1960. They were the parents of one daughter.
After Doris died in 1995, Gerald married Sylvia Worthington Fountain on Feb. 1, 1997.

OBITUARY FROM THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE: CANON
REVEREND GERALD CANON, born August 18, 1931 in Houston, Texas to Monroe and Nodie Canon, died on September 28, 2001 at the age of 70. He began pastoring his first church at the young age of 17 and continued pastoring churches over the next fifty years. Reverend Canon tended not just his flock at his church but also all within the community in which he and his family resided. He earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored at First Baptist Church in Magnolia, Norhill Baptist Church in Houston, Baptist Temple in Victoria and lastly at Almeda Baptist Church in Houston for over twenty-five years. Reverend Canon's services could be heard every Sunday on KHCB for over 24 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Doris Marie Canon. Reverend Canon is survived by his wife, Sylvia Canon; daughter, Debbie Schreve and husband, Jeff; twin sister, Geraldine Smart; brothers, John Dewey Canon, Mickey Canon, Lanny Canon, and Glen Canon; grandchildren, Jill, Amy and Sarah Schreve. Friends may call after 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 30, 2001 at Kingwood Funeral Home where the family will be present for visitation from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 1, 2001 at Forest Cove Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Schreve officiating, assisted by Pastor David Lino and Pastor Dearing Garner. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery. For those desiring, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Almeda Baptist Building Fund, 14001 Almeda School Road, Houston, Texas 77047.
