CANON FUNERAL HOME -- WALLER--OBITUARY
Geraldine Canon Smart, known to so many as Jerry, passed away in Fort Worth on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the age of 85. Jerry was born in Houston, Texas, to loving parents Monroe Dewey and Notie Irene (Norene) Canon and graduated from Tomball High School.
She was married to her surviving husband Samuel B. Smart, Jr. for 65 years. They lived in the Houston area for many years and later in life moved to Corpus Christi and Fort Worth to be closer to family.
Jerry, a wonderful example of a loving Christian mother, was extraordinarily proud of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by sons, Samuel B. Smart, III and wife Judy, and Joel David Smart; daughter, Melanie Jill Richardson and husband Rick; grandchildren, Brendan Smart and wife Sarah, Scott Richardson and wife Samantha, Meredith Smart and husband Tim Smith, Melissa Smart, Laura Gordey and husband Jordan, and great-grandchildren, Luke Richardson, Samuel Muir Smart, Jonah Gordey, Eric Richardson, and Brendan and Sarah's much anticipated second child.
She was the only sister to five brothers: John Dewey, Mickey, twin brother Gerald, Lanny and Glen. John Dewey, Mickey and Gerald predeceased her, while Lanny Canon and wife Edrie Mae, Glen Canon and wife Rose, and sister-in-law Willie Canon remain.
Comforted by the memory of her singing, "I'll fly away, To a home on God's celestial shore" and "Filled with His goodness, lost in His Love," Jerry will live on and forever remain loved and cherished in the hearts and minds of all those whose life she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to a charity of your choice in memory of Geraldine (Jerry) Canon Smart.
Funeral Services will be Friday, June 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Fleming Chapel at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 West Broadway, Fort Worth, TX 76104 with pastor Jorene Swift officiating. Interment will be at Canon-Mathis Cemetery on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 2 p.m.
