In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Loretta Corman Brumfield.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served in World War II. He received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation for wounds he sustained in France along with many other accolades for his bravery during his time of service.
After his military service, WT became very active with the fire service in Jessamine County. In 1955 he was appointed Chief of the Nicholasville Fire Department and served in that capacity for 33 years.
During his time at the Nicholasville Fire Department he was very active in the Central Kentucky Firefighters Association of which he served as president, held many other offices and was appointed to various committees. He served on the Governors Committee on Safety and received one of the first certificates awarded by the University of Kentucky for completion of a 4 year course, was very instrumental in forming what is now the Jessamine County Fire District, and in 2006 was inducted into the Firefighters Hall of Fame. W.T. was a Kentucky Colonel and a long time member of the Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church.
