Meredith Brumfield Owens

Meredith Brumfield Owens, 88, widow of Elwood H. "Tuck" Owens since 2011, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Nov. 28. She was a native of Jessamine County born April 9, 1927, to the late Buford and Sarah Sanders Brumfield. She was a graduate of Versailles High School of which she was proud to say she only missed two days. She was a fun loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Meredith loved to dance, dress to the nines, loved people never meeting a stranger and loved to drive a car. She did not get her drivers license until she became a grandmother but had a backseat drivers license until that time. She was proud to have the ability to chauffeur her grandchildren and has given them many memories of her driving and the adventures of trips to and from school or just being her companion on a trip to town. Her husband gave her the nickname of MeGo since she was always ready to go never turning down the opportunity to go with or be the one to plan a destination. She even won a Senior Beauty Contest in Junction City during Railroad Days. All these memories and so many more she leaves with her children Janice Sharp, husband Norman, Delmar "Joe" Owens, wife Judy, Sarah Sizemore, husband Chet, Tommie Bell, and Theron Owens, wife Edna, grandchildren Kelly Sharpe, wife Vivia, Andrea Holder, husband Troy, Zarathursta Ownes, Doug Owens, wife Laura, Jessica Snyder, husband Dewitt, Justin Sizemore, Jacob and Joshua Owens, great grandchildren Samantha Leachman, husband Victor, Patrick and Bridgette Holder, and Calla Snyder, and great great grandson Victor Leachman IV. She is also is survived by a sisters Ann Glass, Neva Jean Allison, and Susie Parsons, a sister-in-law Imogene Lowery as well as numerous nieces and nephews, She was preceded in death by her son Elwood H."Bugsy" Owens, Jr., grandson David Vinson Bell, sisters Lovie Craig, Ruby Hager, Carman Shawler, and Mildred Walker and brothers Moss Brumfield, Oakle Brumfield, Merritt Brumfield and Walter Brumfield. A Service of Remembrance will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with husband and son at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
