Born the daughter of Isaiah and Narcissa Grayson Garrett. She was educated at Monroe, Madam Maces Seminary in New Orleans and Read Villa Seminary in Baton Rouge. She married William Rutledge Chambliss in Ouachita Parish March 29, 1865. After their eldest child was born, they moved to Texas until 1871, when they moved back to Ouachita. They were the parents of eight children: Frederick Garrett, Franklin Lee, Florine Grayson, William Rutledge Jr., Thomas Scott, Annie Olive, Guy and Orvill Crumm Chambliss. Sarah died in 1909.
