Son of Isaiah and Narcissa Garrett. His father wrote his older son to tell him of little Jimmie's death:

Right here where I now sit writing in your mother's room, he yesterday evening near sun down but while the glorious sun of a calm spring evening still shown upon us - bade us farewell and ascended to our Heavenly father. he died so calmly - so gently as he had lived. Up to within a few moments of his death he was conscious. He evidently knew his ma until near the last gasp. he had suffered much. For the last ten days a painful disease of the bowels had gradually prostrated and won him away. Nothing could arrest it.

Later on in the letter Isaiah wrote:

When you come back you will not meet little Jimmy to welcome you with his joyous laugh. And yet perhaps you may meet him tho' invisible. Perhaps he will have visited you before this reaches and whispered good night in your dreams.
