PIONEER FAMILY MEMBER SUCCUMBS.

Mrs. Edwin Gilding Clarke, 72, member of a prominent Monroe pioneer family, died at a local sanitarium, early Wednesday. The funeral arrangements will be announced later and are in charge of Peters Funeral service.

Mrs. Clarke, who for the past few years had resided at Boyce, near Alexandria, was born near Ennis, Tex., in 1870 and her maiden name daughter of William Rutledge Chambliss and Sarah Garrett Chambliss. She was also a granddaughter of the late Colonel Isaiah Garrett, widely known attorney, who was an honor graduate at West Point.

Mrs. Clarke's childhood was spent on a plantation near Monroe. After her marriage, she lived for five years at Honolulu.

Her death was resultant as after effects of an accident she sustained a few days ago when she fell in downtown Monroe and fractured her hip. Her condition became serious and she failed to rally.

Mrs. Clarke leaves a son, Major Edwin Lee Clarke, who is in foreign military service and a grandon, Henry Lee Clarke, Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Samuel Lewis Allen, Monroe, Judge David I. Garrett is a first cousin.
