Jane Armstrong, daughter of Mary Ann (née Ward) and James A. Armstrong, was born in 1864 in Arthuret Parish, Cumberland, England. Along with her family, she arrived in New York on 23 May 1870. On the S.S. Europa's passenger list, she appears as "Jeannie," age 6. The Armstrong family traveled immediately to Illinois, and her father purchased a farm in Bellflower Township, McLean County. She was 13 when her father died in 1877. Her mother remarried the following year. In 1880, "Jennie" Armstrong, age 16, was employed as a housekeeper in McLean County's West Township. (Her mother, step-father, and siblings were enumerated in adjoining Bellflower Township.)

Jane Armstrong and Marion Jaynes were married on 25 December 1882 in McLean County. Jane died two years later from tuberculosis, having been ill for a year, and was buried in Bellflower Township Cemetery, where her husband, parents, and at least two siblings are buried.

Skinner [Margaret Armstrong], who left Belleflower in 1879; and farther than that I think too much of my dear sister to marry her husband within a month after her death.

Marion Jayne, son of Martha Jeanetta (née Haggerty) and Amos Worthington Jayne, was born in 1859 in Winnebago County, Illinois, where his parents were married in 1851, and Marion and his family were enumerated in 1860. The Jayne family in 1865 relocated to Bellflower Township, McLean County, Illinois.* In 1870, Marion "Janes," age 11, was enumerated in Bellflower Township 16 dwellings away from his future wife, Jane Armstrong, age 7.

Marion Jaynes and Jane Armstrong were married on 25 December 1882 in McLean County. Jane died 2 years later from tuberculosis, having been ill for a year.

Marion Jayne and Virginia Harper (née Simpson) were married on 24 August 1893 in Bellflower, McLean County. He was a farmer, age 35; she was age 32; both were Bellflower residents; second marriage for both.† She had a son from her first marriage. The couple were the parents of a son, Wilfred Cameron, born in 1894. This marriage likely ended with her death, but a record is not found.‡

Marion Jaynes and Kate Cox were married on 29 November 1898 in Bellflower. He was a Bellflower farmer, age 40; third marriage. She was a "maiden," age 28, a resident of Howard (now called Mahomet), Champaign County, Illinois.§ The couple were enumerated in 1900 in Paxton, Ford County, Illinois, where he was employed as a "fireman at plant."

Marion Jaynes was killed on 14 March 1901 in Paxton when a boiler exploded at the electricity plant where he was employed. His 6-year-old son Wilfred was placed in an orphanage the following May. His widow Kate died in 1904 in a Chicago hospital after a surgery.
