Mrs. Nellie Merle Carpenter, 86, a former longtime resident of Colorado City, died Sunday morning in a Longmount, Colorado care center. Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Kiker-Seale Chapel. Burial followed in the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carpenter was born February 7, 1912 in Martin County, Texas and had been a longtime resident of Colorado City before moving to Louisiana and then to Colorado. She married Paul Garrett Carpenter on February 10, 1931 in Colorado City. She was retired from Safeway Food Stores and was a former member of the 22nd. and Austin Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed doing handiwork such as sewing, needlepoint and crochet.
She is survived by one daughter, Nelda Graves of Longmount, Colorado; three sisters, Fern Finley of Colorado City, Ruby Garratt of Midland and Doreen Walding of Glendale, Arizona; two brothers, Donald Adrian of Petersburg and Otis Adrian of White Ranch, Colorado; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Carpenter, her parents, Matthew and Tina Belle Adrian, one daughter, Wanda Sue Edmondson, one son, Bobby Glen Carpenter and one grandchild.
