Dorothy Clapp Buchanan, 85, of Hope, formerly of Columbus, died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at Miller's Merry Manor at Hope.

Mrs. Buchanan retired from Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg in 1983 after 21 years of service. She attended Burney United Methodist Church at Burney and for 30 years was pianist at Greensburg Bethel Apostolic Church and Burney United Methodist Church. She was a member of Clay Township Home Economics Club in Decatur County. A 1939 graduate of St. Paul High School, she was a former resident of St. Paul, Decatur County and Columbus.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul, with the Rev. Michael Riggs officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.

Mrs. Buchanan was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Decatur County, the daughter of E. Gordon and Elsie F. Fezzell Clapp. She married Lawrence E. Buchanan on Dec. 27, 1941.

Survivors include daughters, Paula Buchanan of Taylorsville and Susan (Jerry) Bafford of Shelbyville; a sister, Ruth Ryle of Greensburg; brothers, Paul (June) Clapp of St. Paul, Glen (Florence) Clapp of St. Paul and Tom Clapp of Lafayette; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Barbara) Hatton of Greensburg, Michael (Melissa) Hatton of Columbus, Brooke (Bret) Kroger of Hope and Derek (Mary Hatton) of the Marine Corps; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Taylor, Emma, Allyson, Libby and Tanner Hatton, and Clayton and Elizabeth Kroger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Jan. 12, 2000; an infant son; and a sister, Alma Powell.
