Fond du Lac Reporter, Tues., June 25, 1996, p. B4, c. 1. Roman Robert Sabel, 87, of 423 Wilson Ave., died Sun., June 23, 1996, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Dec. 14, 1908, in the Town of Taycheedah, a son of Henry and Anna Schmitz Sabel. On Jan. 7, 1930, he married Alvina Kloeppel at St. John's Catholic Church in Johnsburg. She died on Apr. 30, 1984. On Dec. 25, 1986, he married Ella Bechler at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the Town of Forest. Mr. Sabel was a dairy farmer all of his life in the Town of Calumet until retiring in 1974, when he moved to Fond du Lac. He was a member of St. Louis Church, Knights of Columbus Council 664, and a former member of Improved Order of the Redman, Calumet Tribe no. 53 of Johnsburg, St. John's Holy Name Society, Calumet Volunteer Fire Department and We Love to Dance Club. Survivors include his wife, Ella; one daughter, Helen Birschbach and her husband Ken of Fond du Lac; three sons, Elmer Sabel and his wife Marcelline of New Holstein, Delbert Sabel and his wife Bernice of Johnsburg, and James Sabel and his wife Kathy of Fond du Lac, one son-in-law, Oscar Guelig of Johnsburg, 24 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one stepson, George J. Bechler and his wife Marian of Dotyville; one stepdaughter, Carol M. Behnke of Spooner; five step-grandchildren; one sister, Priska Diedrich and her husband Albert of St. Peter; and one sister-in-law, Sedonia Sabel of St. Peter. Preceding him in death were two daughters, Rosie Guelig and Marcyanna Sabel; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers and three sisters. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Louis Church. The Rev. Jerome Wagner will officiate. Entombment will be at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday to the time of services at the church. Zacherl Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
