He was born on March 13, 1893, at Johnsburg, to Henry and Anna Schmitz Sabel. On Jan. 30, 1923, he married Caecilia Abler in St. Peter. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served with the U.S. Army in World War I. He was a member of the American Legion Post 75. He farmed in the Malone area until retirement when he moved to Fond du Lac. He had been a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include one son, Othmar of Taycheedah; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Priscilla) Ries and Mrs. Robert (Angeline) Breister, both of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren; one brother, Roman Sabel of Fond du Lac ; and two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Priska) Diederich of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Al ( Alvina ) Abler of St. Peter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Zacherl Funeral Home and at St. Joseph's Church at 10 a.m. The Rev. George J. Gibbons will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in St. Peter.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
