Salineville - Shirley J. Adkins, 72, of Salineville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010. Born Feb. 18, 1938, in Hookstown, a daughter of the late Vernard and Lottie Allison Halstead. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Kester; a grandson, Robert Madison; a granddaughter, Jamie Rose; five brothers, John, Red, Buck, Buddy and Charles Halstead; and four sisters, Grace Campbell, Alice Jones, Isabell StClair and Eunice Halstead. Surviving is her husband of 45 years, Larry Adkins Sr. at home, whom she married in 1965; four sons, Larry (Rhonda) Adkins Jr., Delmar Harris, James (Connie) Harris and Carl Harris all of Salineville; three daughters, Luella (Jim) Miller of Missouri, Sharon (Lester) Harris of Lisbon and Brenda (Bryan) Rose of Salineville; 28 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Halstead of Illinois; and two sisters, Thelma Grey of East Liverpool and Mary Lou Jones of Newell. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010. Pastor Scott Henry will be officiating. The burial will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell.
