Vernard Halstead

Vernard Wellington Halstead, 70, of Glendale Rd., Newell, a retired employe of the New Castle Refractories Co. in Newell, died, Saturday at 2:35 p.m. at his home after a long illness. He was born in Hanover Township (Pa.) Dec. 2, 1892, son of the late Peter J. Halstead and Margaret Moore Halstead. He also had been employed at the former American Sheet & Tin Plate Co. He worked for the Newell firm 14 years before retiring. He attended the Glendale Church of the Nazarene. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Lottie Halstead, at home; four sons, John Halstead and Joseph Halstead, both of Hookstown, Clarence Halstead of Georgetown, and Thomas Halstead of Los Angeles; six daughters, Mrs. Forest Campbell of Georgetown, Mrs. Russell Jones of Pittsburg, Calif., Miss Thelma Halstead, at home; Mrs. Carl St. Clair, Mrs. Denzil Jones and Mrs. Carl Harris, all of New Cumberland, 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Chester Arner Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Wilbur Beaver. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery near Chester. Friends may call at the chapel today and Tuesday.
