Goldie Shadwell, 15, using her bed sheets for a rope hung herself in a cell at the Effingham County Jail on Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff J.D. Marshall while making his rounds at 4:30 o'clock found her. Pinned to her dress was a note addressed to her mother Mrs. Rufus Shadwell, and on the other side to Fred Cook, a boy friend. The note said that she had decided to "end it all."

The boys mother, Mrs. Cook had sworn out a warrant on the two of them, with immoral conduct, and the girl was placed in the county jail on friday morning.

Several weeks earlier, she had charged four young men forcing the Shadwell girl into their car at the tent show grounds and driving off. Later she had two of the men arrested, and Cook was one of them.

The time of her death was not known. According to the sheriff the girl had eaten her dinner as usual on Sunday at noon. When he returned to the cell three hours later he found the girl dead.
