Henry Julius Ahrens

Henry Julius Ahrens, son of August and Emma Ahrens, was born January 22, 1900, near Deshler, Nebraska, and passed away at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, November 7, 1948, at the age of 48 years, nine months and 15 days.

At an early age he was confirmed in the Lutheran church and obtained his education in the parochial school near Deshler, Nebraska, later transferring his membership to the Edgar Methodist Church and remained a faithful member until his death.

In 1919 he with his parents moved to a farm northeast of Angus, Nebraska, where he lived for two years, then moved to a farm northeast of Edgar where he lived for 26 years. Due to ill health he left the farm and moved to Edgar a short time ago where he resided until his death.

On March 22, 1921, he was united in marriage to Esther Maye DeVore, who preceded him in death, August 4, 1943. To this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Harold Beck, Mrs. Donald Gunn and Doris Ahrens, all of Edgar.

October 8, 1944, he was united in marriage to Fern Graham.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, who so tenderly cared for him during his long suffering, also his three daughters, five grandchildren, two sons-in-law, three brothers, August of Kearney, John of Arnold and Louie of Oak; one sister, Mrs. Clay Hull of Sedan, other relatives and a host of friends.

His parents and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a devoted father always thinking of the comfort and welfare of his family. He was a dependable neighbor always ready to assist in any way he could.

Funeral services were held at the Edgar Methodist Church, Wednesday, November 10, 1948, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. J. B. Rayborn and Rev. S. W. Longacre of Palmer in charge.

Mrs. Celia Hunter sang "In the Garden" and "Under His Wings." Mrs. Bettie Merrill was at the piano.
