Bessie Ila Dancy was born on 30 March 1908 in North Wilkesboro, NC. The Daughter of Charlie Hampton Dancy and Melvina (Jennings) Dancy; She is the oldest of the 6 children and the oldest daughter born to her parents. Her siblings are; Minnie Louise Dancy (1910-1990), William "Bill" Jennings Dancy (1911-1969), Edwin Dancy (1914-1914), Evelyn Marie Dancy (1914-1994) & Grace Dean Dancy (1920-2016). She was the wife of Archie Bell Fairchild. They were married on 20 December 1924 in North Wilkesboro, NC. Bessie Ila & Archie are the parents of 5 children (4 sons & 1 daughter); Earl Edwin Fairchild (1925-1982), Robert Paul Fairchild (1927-1997),
James Stuart Fairchild (1929-2009), Virginia Dare Fairchild Brafford (1932-1992) and Charlie Frank Fairchild (1936-1936)

In the Spring of 1924 Bessie Ila meet a handsome young man and stole his heart and later that year she became his. Her future husband was Archie Bell Fairchild, the son of Jesse Abijah Fairchild and Lula Carrie (Foster) Fairchild. Bessie Ila and Archie were married on 20 December 1924 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. They lived in North Wilkesboro for the next few years in a little house next to Bessie's parents. While they lived in town Archie & Bessie Ila became the parents of 3 sons. Earl Edwin, Robert Paul Fairchild and James Stuart Fairchild.

The little family live in North Wilkesboro until Archie moved their little family to High Point, North Carolina seeking work in a hosiery mill. Archie worked in High Point for couple years and then moved his family back to the Champion-Mount Pleasant community in western Wilkes Country where they took up farming, raising chickens and a few head of cattle. Their family lived in the Champion-Mount Pleasant community in the area called Red Top. They also ran a small country store on the edge of their property. Archie's parents Jessie Abijah Fairchild & Lula Carrie (Foster) Fairchild lived just up the road that the old Fairchild home place.

After the little family moved back to Wilkes County they added 2 more children to the family. A daughter; Virginia Dare Fairchild and 4th. son; Charlie Frank Fairchild. (Baby Charlie passed away when he was 8 months old from a cold that turned into pneumonia in a matter of days and in spite of all the doctor and his parents did they couldn't save him). It was a very hard blow to the little family!

Bessie Ila was a full time wife and mother. She enjoyed taking care of her family, her home, cooking and sewing for her family and working in her garden where she grew vegetable and fruits for her family to eat. She enjoyed attending church with her family. For years they were members of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and then later they were member of the Davis Memorial Baptist Church that had built about a half a mile from their home.

In 1950 Archie and Bessie Ila suffered another blow to their family with the lost of their home due to a fire, that burnt their home to the ground. Being a resourceful family they moved into the store room of their country store until they could figure out what to do about building a new home. With the cost of building a new home being more than their budget could handle at that time Archie and Bessie Ila decided to close the county store and to move the building to the place where their home stood before it burnt. After the building was moved to it's new location the whole family got busy remodeling the store into a new home for Archie & Bessie Ila. After months of hard work, by all the family, Archie & Bessie Ila had a new 2 bed room home with a great room that had a living room and kitchen in it. After the house was done the family and neighbors had a big open house party to help replace everything that was lost in the fire of their other house.

On July 5 1964 Bessie Ila suffered a massive heart attack and passed away before the ambulance could get there to take her to the hospital. It was a great lost for Archie to lose the love of his life.

Bessie Ila was laid to rest in the Davis Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Which is in the Champion-Mount Pleasant community of Wilkes County, North Carolina. Shortly after her burial, her infant son Charlie Frank Fairchild's body was moved from the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery to the Davis Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery where he was buried next to his mother.

Bessie Ila (Dancy) Fairchild was preceded in death by her infant Son, Charlie Frank Fairchild (1936-1936), Her parents, Charlie Hampton Dancy (1885 - 1963) Melvina Jennings Dancy (1889 - 1958), her Grandchildren; Charles Edwin Fairchild and Infant Granddaughter (the daughter of James & Wilma Fairchild) and all of her grandparents.

She is survived by her husband, Archie Bell Fairchild of Wilkesboro, NC, her sons; Earl Edwin (Doris) Fairchild of North Wilkesboro, NC, Robert Paul (Ruth) Fairchild of Wilkesboro, NC, James Stuart (Wilma) Fairchild of Wilkesboro, NC; daughter Virginia Dare Fairchild (Ray) Brafford of Wilkesboro, NC,; Her Grandchildren; Robert Franklin "Frank" Fairchild, Barbara Jean Fairchild, Sue Ann Fairchild, Jerry Deane Fairchild, Danny Ray Brafford and Jeffrey Stuart Fairchild. Her siblings; Minnie Louise Dancy (Travis) Elledge, William "Bill" Dancy, Evelyn Marie Dancy (Clayton) Davis and Grace Dean Dancy (Harry) Kincaid and her nieces & nephews.
