Virginia Dare Fairchild was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina on July 11, 1932 (one day after her brother James's 3rd. birthday) and is the Daughter of Archie Bell Fairchild and Bessie Ila Dancy. She was the only girl out of the 5 children born to her parents. Her brothers are: Earl Edwin, Robert Paul, James Stuart and Charlie Frank Fairchild. Virginia was the wife of Ray Monroe Brafford and they had one son, Danny Ray Brafford. They are the grandparents of Dana & Austin Brafford.

Virginia spent her early years living in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina until her parents moved their little family to High Point, North Carolina seeking work for his father during the Great Depression. Her father was able to find work in a hosiery mill were he worked for several years until he moved his family back to the Champion-Mount Pleasant community in Western Wilkes Country where they took up farming, raising chickens and a few head of cattle. Their family lived in the Champion-Mount Pleasant community in the area called Red Top. Her parents also ran a small country store on the edge of their property. Virginia's grandfather Jessie Abijah Fairchild lived just up the road from her parent's farm on the old Fairchild home place. Virginia spent a lot of time visiting with her grandfather and being spoiled by him because he lived so close and was always stopping by for a visit. Virginia and her brothers helped their parents run the farm and store until she got married and left home.

On October 1, 1952, at the age of 20, she married Ray Monroe Brafford in Wilkes County, North Carolina. They were married for 40 years and during that time they moved several time do to their jobs. They lived in Wilkes and Caldwell County and then settled back in Wilkes County were they worked until health issues cause both of them to have to retire.

Virginia loved to spend her spare time visiting with her siblings and their families, doing all kinds of crafts, going to church and most of all spoiling her son Danny, daughter-in-law Susan and her 2 grandchildren, Dana and Austin. She attended church at Davis Memorial Baptist Church were she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir.

Virginia passed away on December 18, 1992 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Monroe Brafford, her son, Danny Ray (Susan) Brafford, Her grandchild, Dana & Austin Brafford and her 2 brothers, Robert Paul Fairchild and James Stuart (Wilma) Fairchild. Several Nieces, Nephews and Great Nieces and Nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Bell Fairchild and Bessie Ila Dancy Fairchild, Her 2 Brothers, Earl Edwin and Charlie Frank Fairchild. Nephew, Charles Edwin Fairchild and Infant Niece Fairchild. Also her Sister-in-Law, Ruth Ailene Ferguson Fairchild.

She is buried in the Davis Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in the Champion-Mt. Pleasant Community of Western Wilkes County, North Carolina next to her parents. Surround by her brothers, Niece, Nephew and Sister-in-Law.
