Thomas R. Scott, 82, well-known former Traer businessman and a brother of Will Scott, of this place, died at 1 a. m. yesterday at his home at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, following a long illness of heart disease. A funeral service will be held at Mount Vernon tomorrow afternoon following which the body will be brought to Traer for burial in Buckingham cemetery beside that of the decedent's wife who died eight years ago. The Rev. J. J. Snyder, Traer Methodist pastor will conduct a short service at the cemetery and the casket will probably be open at that time.

Mr. Scott was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, coming to north Tama with his parents in 1870. The family settled on a farm in the Bakers Grove neighborhood where he grew to manhood. After he moved to Traer and was associated here with Dan Bower in the grocery business. Later he operated a produce business of his own, and still later was associated with Will Scott in the operation of a livery and feed barn. For a few years he served as caretaker of Taylor Park and of Buckingham cemetery.

Mr. Scott moved from Traer to Mt. Vernon in 1919. In 1927 he moved from there to Fort Smith, Arkansas for the benefit of his wife's health. After her death in November 1931, Mr. Scott returned to Mt. Vernon, his home ever since. Mr. Scott was married December 5, 1888, to Anna May Fredrickson a sister of William and Emma Fredrickson, of Traer. Her death followed an illness of more than twelve years, during which time she was continuously confined to her bed. The couple were the parents of four children, three of whom are living — Ruby, the only daughter who is married and living at Mt. Vernon; Robert, former night telephone operator here, also now of Mt. Vernon; and Thomas Jr. of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
