Youth Kills Father After Mother Hit Sheriff Huff Says
Leonard Earl Mealer, 39, was killed instantly when shot in the back by his 15-year-old son, Sheriff Earl M. (Mutt) Huff reported Tuesday. The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Mealer home in the Hillsboro community.
Huff said Mrs. Mealer told him her husband had come in for supper, had whipped the four-year-old child when he dropped a popcycle on the floor, and had hit her with his fist and kicked her out in the yard. She said the boy, Leonard Edward Mealer [Charles], got a 410-gauge shotgun and shot his father in the back, the sheriff said.
Huff said no charges have been filed at this time. The victim was employed at Avco in Nashville. The youth is a student at Hillsboro School.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time.
