~0bit~John Edward Attwood, who resided near Troy Mills, passed away Thursday evening, July 31, at the age of 54 years. Mr. Attwood was a prominent farmer in the Troy Mills community and had wide circle of family and friends. John Edward Attwood was born in this vicinity June 15, 1870. He was the son of John Elmer and Harriet Buckingham, old settlers here. He married Lena Jane Laabs on February 2, 1899. There are nine children: five boys and four girls. They are Emil, George, Rupert, Roy, Mary, Mabel, Albert, Helen and Lena Jane. He has two brothers, George Elmer and Charles Henry, both of whom live in Troy Mills, one sister, Jane Atwood Smith. Also one sister Helen Clemons who died June 1940. Mr. Attwood spent his boyhood around Troy Mills. After his marriage he moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota where he worked as a wagon maker. Later he went to Dakota on a farm where he remained for seven years. In 1912 he returned to the Troy Mills neighborhood and has lived there since that time. A year ago during the harvesting of oats, he was stricken with sun stroke. He has been ailing since that time. His brother, Charles went with him to Rochester just after Christmas, but the Mayo doctors did not give him any relief. About five weeks ago he took to his bed and did get up again. Death came to his relief on Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Ed has been a hard industrious worker. He was a good husband and provided well for his family. He was a good neighbor, one when needed, always honest in his dealings and sympathetic toward those in trouble.

Funeral services were held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 15, 1980, with interment in Waterloo, Iowa.He was the son of Edward and Lena Attwood and grew up in the Troy Mills Community. He is survived by one sister, Mary Petro, of Independence, Iowa and one brother, Rupert, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
