Services were held Saturday, October 21, 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in Springfield City Cemetery.
He is survived by son, Joe, and special friend Jolene of Springfield; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Terry Menter of Springfield; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gladys of Moline, Ill.; and sisters Arlene VanRycke and Betty Van DeWyston, both of Moline, Ill., Bertha Nelson of Prescott, Wis., Leona Gunneson of Sleepy Eye, and Ruth Daluge of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris (Dolly) in 1997; daughter-in-law, Rae Jean; sister-in-law, Gladys; and brothers, Warren and Herman.
Wilbert was born May 30, 1919, in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Theodore and Elizabeth (Kosel) Stern. He attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II Pearl Harbor, from 1941-45. He married Doris Schnobrich on May 2, 1946, in Wanda. They farmed south of Sleepy Eye from 1960-65, and near Comfrey from 1965-72. He moved to Springfield and worked at Ochs Brick Company, Springfield and Del Monte Corporation of Sleepy Eye. He belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 38 in Redwood Falls.
