Harriet Atwell was born 30 August 1849 in St. Georges Parish, Ramsgate, Kent, England to John and Mary Atwell. She immigrated from England with her mother and siblings. Arriving on the Harvest Queen in New York harbor on 18 October 1855.

Harriet and Philip Stober were married 25 January 1874 in Schuyler County, Missouri. They were the parents of 11 children:
Albert Miles Stober, Elmer Edward Stober, Claude Austin Stober, Mary Elizabeth Stober (m. Ira S. Saylor), Leroy Matthew Stober, Margaret Ann "Maggie" Stober (m. George Rown), Clarence Philip Stober, Rolla Jette Stober, Carl Alfred Stober, Phiana Bertha Stober (m. Earl Hawk) and George Everett Stober.

Mrs.Philip Stober Dead
Mrs. Philip Stober died last Monday after a short illness. The immediate cause of death was bursting of a blood vessel in the head induced through a severe spell of coughing. The family consisted of a husand and eleven children, all of whom were present at the funeral on Tuesday. Rev. Eckles conducted the funeral service and Evangelist Conner sang a hymn. The remains were placed in the Stober Springs cemetery. The neighbors were very kind and rallied with their pocket books and soon had over $50 to fix up the babies and arranged the corpse fittingly for the tomb. For all their kindnesses and good words of cheer the bereaved husband asks us to return thanks. May the good Lord have mercy on the stricken family.
