Norma Estella "Stella" Anderson Newman

Bothwell: Norma Estella (Stella) Newman, 91, passed away on June 21, 2002, at Peach Tree Place in Tremonton of causes incident to age. She lived her entire life in Bothwell, UT. She was born March 8, 1911, the 11th of 16 children of Rasmus (Daddy) and Mary Elvina Johnson Anderson.

She married Henry Andrew Newman January 16, 1930, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. To this union was born four children: Odell A (Beverly), Kent A (Wilma), Ned A (Patricia), and there long awaited daughter Carrie Joy (Ralph Cullimore). Henry died February 23, 1996.

In her parent's home there was much work to be done. Stella worked very hard helping her mother in the home and still spent many hours in the field with her siblings. Her younger brother has often said that no one knows how hard she worked in the beet field. In her younger years it was reported that she could bend over with a 15 inch handled hoe and thin an acre of sugar beets per day. She and Henry worked hard as they started their marriage and family in the midst of the great depression.
Providing food became an everyday objective. Their successful garden did a lot to help feed them. Henry's reputation as the best farmer in the valley was complimented by his beautiful wife, who made due on very little.

Stella was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions until her health declined.

Stella is survived by two sons, her daughter, one brother, two sisters, 15 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 12 siblings, her husband, one son and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at the Bothwell LDS Ward Chapel, 10350 West 11600 North. Friends may call Monday, June 24th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East and Tuesday, June 25th from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church.

The family wishes to deeply thank Karen Marker and her wonderful staff at the Peach Tree Place in Tremonton. Stella was cared for with great love and compassion, making each day she spent there comfortable and pleasant. Heritage hospice were a great help during Stella's last few weeks. We her family will ever be grateful to both of them.
