One of the saddest deaths that has occurred in this locality, was the demise of Mrs. Bert Ashley at her home northwest of town last Thursday evening after a long and distressing illness of lung affliction. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the home and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery, Rev. Hoover of the Rock Branch church preaching the sermon.
Austa Jane Drake was born near Anthon, Iowa, Sept. 16, 1882, and was married to Bert Ashley March 6, 1900. To them six children were born, five of whom are still living. Besides these children and her husband she leaves father, mother, two brothers and two sisters. Her brother, Bert Drake of Bancroft, S.D. and sister Mrs. A. M. Rogers of Correctionville, were in attendance at the funeral.
Mrs. Ashley was an excellent wife, a fond mother and a lady who was beloved by all who knew her. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the bereaved husband and children.
