She raised six children through the Great Depression, and was known for her response to their wishes for things that just weren't ever going to make it into the budget: "wish in one hand, and shit in the other, and see which one you get more of." And, no, I am NOT claiming she's the one who coined the phrase. She went by "Dorothy" for government records, possibly to appear less "German" at a time when two world wars set the USA against Germany, but she was named for a grandmother who spelled the name the German way.

Post was born on 24 January 1896, in Madison and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of St James Catholic Church. She was married to William A. Endres, who preceded her in death in 1955.
