MADISON/DUNEDIN FL - Gregory R. Endres, age 67 years and 4 months, formerly of Madison, Wisconsin; died on Sunday, 26 January 1986 at his home in Florida. He was born Gregory Adolf Endres on September 25, 1918, in Madison; and was a life-long area resident, living the last 8 months in Dunedin, Florida. He was an electrical contractor in Madison for many years. Mr Endres served in the U. S. Army from 1940 to 1946. He entered the service in the "Red Arrow" Division. He was commissioned an officer in 1941 and served with the 3rd Corps in Europe; he was a member of the famed "Red Ball Express." Shortly after World War II he changed his middle name, owing to the unpopularity of the name "Adolf." It became officially "Gregory Roland Endres" on 17 Jan 1946. He went into the active reserve upon completion of his active duty. He was a graduate of Airborne Training and the U. S. Army Ranger School, where he was third in his class; both at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served as G4 and Chief of Staff of the 84th Infantry Division in Madison, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was also a University of Wisconsin graduate with a BS in light building; and was president of the Electric Service Shop of Madison. Memberships included the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #159, where he worked until his retirement in May of 1985, St James Catholic Church, and VFW Post #1318. He is survived by his wife, the former Lois Steadman, whom he married on March 12, 1978, in Madison; a daughter, Linda M. Bogle of Springfield, Illinois; three sons, Gregory M. of Madison, Mark R. of Leesburg, Florida, and Frederick B. (sic) of Stoughton; two sisters, Mrs Donald (Kay) Kraft of Charleston, South Carolina, Mrs Howard (Joan) Howe of Cottage Grove; and two brothers, Harold L. of Sun Prairie, Howard A. of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Endres; and a brother, William. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 1986, at 11:00 a.m. at ST JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1204 St. James Court, with Father William DeBock officiating, (sic) Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
