WAS BURIED ON HER EIGHTY-SIXTH BIRTHDAY
Angeline Derhammer Passed to the Great Beyond Sunday Morning.
Mrs. Angeline Derhammer died at the home of her son, John H. Derhammer, Sunday morning, after having been confined to her bed for eleven weeks. She was afflicted with no bodily disease, but just simply wore out her physical machinery. She was a true, conscientious Christian woman, and was ever ready to help the unfortunate and was never known to turn any one away from her door if they were hungry or in want. In childhood, she united with the Re-formed Church of the United States and was ever loyal and true to her Master.. Her maiden name was Angeline Mongold. She was born in Buck county, Penn., .May 4. 1829. There she spent her childhood, and at the age of fifteen emigrated with her parents to Medina county, Ohio, near the River Styx. Here she became acquainted with John Harris Derhammer, whom she married on May 27, 1849. To this union, ten children were born, six of whom are living, namely: Mrs. Rachel Snook and Jacob J . Derhammer of Kalamazoo; Joseph F. Derhammer of Lansing; Henry Derhammer and John H. Derhammer of this place, and Ephriam Derhammer of South Haven. She also leaves twenty-three grand-children and seventeen great-grand-children. Her husband died in 1879. After living twenty years in Ohio she, with her family, came to Michigan in 1869, locating in the township of Wakeshma, where the family built a home, the children doing the farm work while the father was employed at his trade, erecting many of the buildings which stand in that community today. In the fall of 1881, she, with three of the younger boys, moved to Otsego, where a home was purchased and paid for by their united efforts. Here she has lived for thirty-six years, loved and honored for her many virtues and noble Christian character. For twenty years the children have gathered in Otsego on the fourth day of May to celebrate their mother's birthday. On that date this year they assembled together to attend her funeral. Rev. H. C. Trabert of Kalamazoo preached the sermon and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moncreiff sang two duets. There were many flowers, the piece worthy of special mention being the panel of eighty-six carnations representing the number of years of life of the deceased. This was furnished by Effie Martin and Lottie Kane
of Plainwell. Interment was made in Mountain Home cemetery. Those here from away were Mr. Mrs. Fred Snook, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Snook, Fred and Harry Snook, Jacob Derhammer and wife, Mrs. Flossie Herrick, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bohl, all of Kalamazoo; Mrs, Ephriam Derhammer of South Haven and John Doran of Portage.
