S. L. Galbreath, age 85 of Ailey, died Monday, October 4, 2010 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He retired after many years of service as a rural letter carrier at the Ailey Post Office, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member and Deacon of the Higgston Baptist Church and was a former member and Deacon of the New Corinth Baptist Church. He served for twenty-five years on the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau in Montgomery County and was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Harrison Galbreath, Sr. and DeAlice Booth Galbreath and four brothers, Henry Harrison Galbreath Jr., Lindberg Galbreath, Booth Galbreath, and Devoy Galbreath.
Mr. Galbreath is survived by his wife, Doris "Dot" Galbreath of Ailey; four children, William Duane Galbreath, B. Cheryl Foss, Terry Lawton Galbreath all of Ailey, and Kimberly Michelle Corley and her husband Jim a special son-in-law, of Vidalia; a God-son, Dennis Thornton of Vidalia; two sisters, Elsie Waller of Vidalia and Joyce Skaggs and her husband Jim of Ailey; two brothers, Hilburn Galbreath and wife Midge of St. Simons Island, and Reginald Galbreath and wife Gail of Appling; seven grandchildren, Shane, William, Luci, Dustin, Brent, Dillon and Derick; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Corley and Reverend Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Galbreath Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday Evening October 5, 2010 from 6:00 until 9:00.
