William Jackson was the seventh son and ninth child of Francis and Elizabeth W. Childress Jackson. His first name also appears on documents as Williams, so possibly his name was William S.

We know a little about William Jackson from the document, "The Jackson Family," by Carmine Jackson. "Williams Jackson also received a gift of land from his father (Williamson Co. Deed Book). This land covered the heart of Versailles. Later Williams Jackson and William G. Hight exchanged land. This exchange located the land of Williams Jackson along the Bedford-Rutherford Co. line, mostly north of Kingdom Church and road."

William Jackson married Drusilla Lytle on 15 Jan 1824. She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Rushing Lytle. According to the source, "The History of Versailles, Tenth District, and its Peoples," and Federal Census records it appears that William and Drucilla had ten children:
- Rebecca Lyle
- Mary Emily - unknown burial, (see below)
- Jonathan C.
- Jemima - unknown burial, (b. 9 Feb 1831)
- James R. - unknown burial, (b. 19 Feb 1833)
- Indiana
- Julia Ann
- Drusilla "Dovie" Emily
- Anna Melissa Susan
- Cassia - unknown burial, (b. 19 Dec 1848)
This source lists Jemima, James, and Cassie as having "died as a child, or died young."

Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Emily," was born 4 May, 1827 and married John Garrett "J.G." Primm. His will lists two children, Elizabeth A. (b. 1860) and Dovie S. (1880-1954). Mary Emily Jackson Primm's burial is also unknown but probably Rutherford Co., Tn.

William Jackson appears in four US Federal Census records:
- 1840 for Williamson Co., Tn in a household of 11 persons (8 white and 3 slave), occupation farmer and slave owner, listed as Williams
- 1850 for Rutherford Co., Tn with spouse and 6 children, occupation farmer, listed as Williams
- 1860 for Bedford Co., Tn (western division) with spouse, Drusilla Lytle Jackson, and two daughters, occupation farmer, listed as Williams
- 1870 for Bedford Co., Tn with spouse and two black domestic servants, listed as William

According to the source, The History of Versailles, Tenth District, and its Peoples, after the death of Drucella Lytle Jackson, Williams Jackson married Anne Elizabeth Pope (d. 1903) on 18 Nov 1873 in Rutherford Co., Tn. This is further supported by his being listed as married at the time of his death in Bedford Co., Tn.
