John Childress Jackson was born in Virginia. He was the son of Francis Marion Jackson, Sr. and Elizabeth Childress Jackson of Rutherford County Tennessee. John's mother was a cousin to Sarah Childress Polk wife of President James K. Polk. John Chidress Jackson early settler of this region of Colbert County Alabama (before 1867 was Franklin County) on June 1, 1831. The region he settled was called Jackson Ridge, Alabama in the Bear Creek region of western Colbert County and at one point of time this small community consisted of a church and school.Today many of his descendents live in the Snowdown Community of Tishomingo County Mississippi (Wingo, Mars, Jackson, Wood families).
