Fred was the third child and second son of Fritz and Dorothea Braasch. He was born in the Braasch log cabin north of Jansen, NE and died at Harbine, NE. He was confirmed in 1888 at the Cub Creek Church. He never married. He was tall and had dark hair. In the late 1930s he lived in an old building he owned on the west side of the street in downtown Harbine. He perhaps lived there for many years as his sister, Sophia Braasch (died in 1925) resided there with him at one time before her death. (Info obtained from the Braasch family history compiled by Malvery Wendt in 1983). His WWI draft card from 1918 lists his occupation as farming. He signed the draft card as "Fred John Braasch".
